My path to a career in graphic design was very happenstance. I have always been interested in a career in the arts, but throughout high school and my early college days, I had no idea of what specific career I wanted to pursue.
I moved to San Diego in the summer of 2014 with the plan to begin community college courses in the fall. My course registration date fell in the middle of a week where I was going to be on the East Coast volunteering as a counselor at a camp for siblings of children with cancer where I had originally started as a camper, progressing to counselor as I got older. I was not going to have access to a computer at camp, so instead I left my computer with my mother along with instructions for how to login and a list of the classes I wanted to take. Unfortunately, all of the classes I wanted were not available and she was left to pick other classes that were, so she chose two graphic design classes.
As the saying goes, the rest is history. I fell in love with graphic design. The process of creating vectors and layouts came easily to me and fit perfectly with my longtime desire to create something that evokes emotion. My dream is to someday work for a magazine creating interesting and evocative layouts.
